The recently delivered ‘SL Mbissi’ will be the next Damen-built vessel in fleet of Smit Lamnalco. Nevertheless, the 25 metre shallow water workship is special in more ways than one: It’s the first-ever Damen Shoalbuster for Smit Lamnalco. Although Smit Lamnalco, leading provider of integrated marine services, already deploys a lot of Damen-built vessels – six of which having been delivered in the past 15 months alone – it had yet to order a Damen Shoalbuster SD. The series’ name is a poetic licence to ‘shallow draught’ (SD). Dutch based Damen Shipyard will deliver two new builds to Mexico.
The 50 m crew boats, designed with the Damen patented Sea Axe bow, are currently under construction at Damen yards in Vietnam. Delivery for the first vessel is expected late November 2013, whereas the second vessel will be handed over to Naviera Integral mid-January 2014. The “Waterspreeuw”: a tailor-made hybrid patrol vessel for Amsterdam’s complex network of waterways
Damen Shipyards Hardinxveld-Giessendam recently delivered an exceptional vessel, the “Damen Patrol Vessel 1304 Hybrid”, designed and constructed for Waternet (the Water Network Foundation). The most striking features of this hybrid patrol vessel are that it is clean, quiet, and can sail under Amsterdam’s bridges along the through routes. The “Waterspreeuw” – meaning “Dipper” in English – was ceremonially named by the Amsterdam Executive Councillor Carolien Gehrels on 17 June 2013.

Damen’s third modern-day steel clipper The Ministry of Defence in Oman has awarded Damen Shipyards Group a contract for the construction of a Sail Training Vessel (STV). The 87-metre square rigged, three-masted steel clipper and will take up her role as flagship. In addition to its key role of training young Omani navy cadets and officers, the new clipper will be deployed in a distinct diplomatic role and emphasize Oman’s centuries-old maritime tradition. Due for delivery in August 2014, the ship will replace the RNO’s current RNOV ‘Shabab Oman’ and will be in the RNO Fleet. In March (2013) the ship’s keel laying ceremony took place at Damen Shipyards Galati (Romania). This was conducted by Rear Admiral Al Raisi, the RNO’s commander-in-chief. DAMEN Shipyards Group daughter Damen Shipyards Bergum is proud of the delivery of Damen Combi Freighter 3850 ‘Hoogvliet’. The carrier for oversized cargo was launched at Cruise Terminal Rotterdam in early February by lady sponsor Annefleur Janssen. She is the daughter of one of the participants of the business alliance, which will deploy the vessel in European waters. The main participants are Hartel Shipping and Hudig & Veder. Damen Shipyards, headquartered in The Netherlands, has just secured an order for no less than fourteen ship-handling tugboats from the Kuwait Oil Company (KOC) nine of them to their latest ASD TUG 3212 design, and five to their better-known 2810 design. The new 3212 tugs, designed to push, pull and tow, will be assisting tankers at nearshore loading terminals and will also be equipped with a powerful fire-fighting system for station at the new single point moorings further offshore Kuwait.These vessels, due for delivery from Damen Shipyards Galati in Romania in 2014, have been tailored to meet KOC’s requirements, but the design features of Damen’s standard version of the optimised model 3212, with its stronger 80 ton bollard pull are the focus here.
