Norwegian Offshore ROV-Survey Vessel

Earlier this summer, GC Rieber Shipping, Norway took delivery of a new survey vessel, MV Polar King from shipbuilder CNP Freire, Spain. The vessel is a Norwegian bureau Skipsteknisk ST-254L CD design and built to service offshore oil/gas platforms and has an ICE-C classification and a ROV capability. It has an LOA of 363 ft (110.6 m), deadweight of 5500 t, cargo capacity of approximately 10,000 ft2 (925 m2), there is accommodation for up to 120 persons. A diesel electric propulsion system comprises six MAN 9L21/31 diesel engines, giving a total power of 11.8 MW. This provides a top speed of about 16 kn. A sister ship, the MV Polar Queen, with accommodation for 112 persons was built and recently completed by the same yard, entered service this month. [More]
