Commissioning of the Turkish Navy’s Indigenous Corvette

Turkey’s first major indigenous warship, the TCG Heybeliada (F-511), is scheduled to be commissioned by the Turkish Navy today. Part of the MILGEM program of twelve ships, it aims to reduce Turkey’s dependence on foreign suppliers while boosting domestic industry. The ships have a displacement of: 2,300 tonnes an LOA of 325 ft (99.00 m), a CODAG propulsion system comprises a single GE LM 2500 gas turbine and two MTU 16V595TE90 diesels powering to two shafts with CPPs. Cruising speed is 15 knots offering a range of 3,500 nautical miles (6,480 km) : the maximum speed is 29+ knots. [More]
