STX Finland and Viking Line have confirmed their October agreement for the construction of a 214 m, 57,000 gross tons passenger cruise ferry with a speed of 23 kts: the agreement includes an option for a sister ship. The use of liquefied natural gas (LNG) to fuel the vessel will reduce exhaust emissions to a very low level, in addition, environmental issues including noise levels and wave formation will also be addressed in the design of what will be the world’s largest LNG fuelled passenger shp. The engines have a dual fuel capability are also able to run on diesel fuel if LNG is not available.
