Hatecke GmbH built nine units for “Norwegian Getaway”
Lifeboats of the “Norwegian Getaway” coming from the Hatecke GmbH in Drochtersen near the German river Elbe. Each boat features a length of 12.70 m and 5.45 m in width, weight is of 12 to each and they are certified for 300 persons. According to Hatecke GmbH, they are currently one of the leading manufacturers of lifeboats and davit systems. All their products are developed in-house and conform with LSA regulations laid down by the IMO. All lifeboats and rescue boats are delivered with their own inbuilt launching system, as a “ready-to-assemble” package. This helps minimize shipyard installation costs. Royal Caribbean increases number of cabines in the Voyager Class
The cruising segment is booming: Royal Caribbean upgrades four ships of their fleet and also investments will be done in Germany.
The cruise shipping company Royal Caribbean continues with its revitalization program and upgrades four vessels of their Voyager Class, which have been approved each for around 3.100 passengers, with additional 75 cabins. Additional refurbishments will be done on the “Navigator of the Seas”, the “Voyager of the Seas”, the “Explorer of the Seas” and the “Adventure of the Seas”. The fifth vessel of this class, the “Mariner of the Seas” has already made its docking time in May 2012.

First results presented about MOL COMFORT’s sea damageReasons for the severe sea damage of the container vessel MOL COMFORT still not finally cleared.Together with both the Japanese classification society ClassNK and Mitsubishi Shipyard the shipping company Mitsui O.S.K Lines (MOL) currently investigates the disaster last summer where the 8.110 TEU-container carrier damaged in heavy sea and finally broke in two while underway from Singapore to Jeddah. The crew could escape in life rafts and were picked up by another vessel. Now preliminary results have been released.

Dutch based Damen Shipyard will deliver two new builds to Mexico.
The 50 m crew boats, designed with the Damen patented Sea Axe bow, are currently under construction at Damen yards in Vietnam. Delivery for the first vessel is expected late November 2013, whereas the second vessel will be handed over to Naviera Integral mid-January 2014. More stowage space with new hull segment
On a few ships of the current fleet exist the possibility to extend the hull, to increase the capacity and efficiency of the ships operation. With such an extension load capacity, carrying capacity and contractually project loading increases – whereby transport costs per shipping unit decreases. Speed of the vessel is practically not influenced by this capacity extension.
To do this the ship’s hull will be separated midships and extended with a new longitudinal segment. This is a very common conversion process and offers the advantage that the new ships segment can be completely prepared before the vessel arrives at the shipyard.

Rolls-Royce has congratulated Sanmar Shipyard for the completion of the world's first gas powered tug, in a ceremony in Istanbul, Turkey, this weekend.
Sanmar has completed the first of two tugs for Norwegian customer Buksér og Berging, which each feature two Rolls-Royce Bergen C26:33L6PG engines fueled purely by natural gas (stored as LNG), with a combined output of 3,410kW (1,705 kW each) at 1,000 rev/min.The lean-burn engines operates on the Otto cycle with mixture compression and an external ignition source.A rich gas/air mix in a precombustion chamber is ignited and forms a strong ignition source for the very lean mixture in the cylinder for knock-free combustion. The engines are direct coupled to Rolls-Royce azimuthing Z-drives mounted aft in ASD configuration with controllable pitch propellers. Damen Shiprepair & Conversion has developed a new innovative product, the ‘Quick Docking/Fuel Saving’ package. This offers owners a fast and low-cost additional docking with the sole aim of reducing fuel consumption in between the five-year statutory survey period.
The first vessel booked under the new concept has docked at Damen Shiprepair Brest (France). It is the capesize bulker ‘Castillo De Catoira’ operated by Spanish company Empresa Naviera Elcano. Damen expects to bring more of its vessels to its ship repair yards.
Jos Goris, Managing Director of Damen Shiprepair Brest and initiator of the concept, comments: “We know that hull resistance builds up during years of service and this can have a significant impact on performance and consequently, fuel costs. On third of September the second inland navigation tanker, which is also powered by natural gas, has been christened by the President of the Central Commission for the Navigation of the Rhine, Ms Belliard, in Rotterdam. The launch of the GreenRhine tanker took place at the Port of Rotterdam in the presence of representatives from the Dutch and European inland navigation sectors, local and regional authorities, suppliers, Interstream Barging (from whom Shell has chartered the ship) and Peters Shipyards, the company that built the ship.

Incat Crowther, Australia, has announced a first of type 70m Catamaran Fast Crew Boat (FCB), compliant with IMO HSC code and complete with a crew transfer system consisting of dynamic positioning equipment class (DP2) coupled with a stabilized access platform. Construction of the vessel has commenced at the shipbuilder Incat Tasmania, with delivery scheduled for September 2014. The new crew transfer vessels will be delivered to Caspian Marine Services Ltd (CMS) in Baku, Azerbaijan.
The vessel will operate as a fast crew transfer vessel for 150 offshore workers to multiple offshore installations. The hull design has been optimized for high speed transits with specific features to limit the sea sickness of transiting offshore workers. The on-board noise, vibration and indoor climate is in accordance with DNV comfort class notation. The vessel is designed to operate in sea conditions of 40 knot wind and seas of 3m significant wave height.
